Bourke's Goal Lifts Bloomsburg Field Hockey to Win

SHIPPENSBURG.--Tara Bourke's (Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII) goal in overtime lifted the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Shippensburg on Saturday.
Bourke's goal came after Whitney Miller (Lancaster/Penn Manor) took the ball along the endline and passed to Bourke who slammed it past Shippensburg goalie Allie Rutland 6:49 into the extra session. For Bourke, it was her third goal of the season.
Shippensburg led 1-0 at halftime on Kristen Miller's goal 30 minutes into the game. The Huskies tied the score at 1-1 when Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) scored off an Amy Gilbert (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland) assist with just about three minutes gone in the second half.
Shippensburg regained the lead 11 minutes later when Kim Davies scored unassisted. The Huskies tied the score for the second time in the 63rd minute when Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland) notched her 20th goal of the season.
Bloomsburg dominated the overtime period taking four shots to just one for the Lady Raiders.
The Huskies improved to 8-1, 5-1 in the PSAC, while Shippensburg falls to 6-3, 3-3 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg will host Kutztown on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
